Objective: I will find perimeters of composite figures.

Vocabulary:  Composite Figure - made up of triangles, squares, rectangles, semicircles and

                       Perimeter - distance around a figure.

Chapter 7 (Real Numbers and the Pythagorean Theorem)
Objective:  I will find square roots of perfect squares.
                   I will evaluate expressions involving square roots.
                   I will use square roots to solve equations.

Vocabulary:  The square root of a number is the number that, when multiplied by itself equals the target number. Example: The target number is 64; the square root is 8 because 8 times itself equals the target number, 64.

A perfect square is a number with integers as it's square roots. Example: 16 is a perfect square because the square root of 16, which is 4, is an integer.

The symbol √ or  is called a radical sign. It is used to represent a square root. The number under the radical sign is called the radicand.

Vocabulary: A scale is the ratio that compares the measurement in the drawing or model to the actual measurements of an object. The units can be the same or different. For example, the scale of a model airplane could be 1cm:3ft (notice that one of the units is cm and the other is ft.)

Scale Factor is a scale, but the units MUST be the same. For example, the scale factor for a model car could be 1in:10in (notice that the units are the same) so the scale factor is X10.
